Injection pulling and injection locking can be observed in numerous physical systems where pairs of oscillators are coupled together. Perhaps the first to document these effects was Christiaan Huygens, the inventor of the pendulum clock, who was surprised to note that two pendulum clocks which normally would keep slightly different time nonetheless became perfectly synchronized when hung from a common beam.
I’ve been obsessed with entrainment recently. Specifically the entrainment of heartbeats through intentional breathing exercises. I know it sounds super hippy but it’s become really valuable in performance situations like playing music where I need extra focus or in moments of conflict that I’ve been able to actively resolve by breathing and deescalating the situation. Entrainment as a concept scales up really well and could be creatively applied to social cultural events and their understanding. The fact that it has to do with audio synthesis is a really big part of my interest in it too. It’s nice to learn new things in my field that have a broader utility.
